Deep learning diagnostics holds immense potential to enhance both the speed and accuracy of disease diagnoses. The diagnostic information that artificial intelligence (AI) absorbs comes from various silos, including symptom data, disease causes, test results, medical images, doctor reports and more. AI can accurately identify disease diagnoses in these data sets and has become a viable source of diagnostic information. AI and machine learning can improve diagnostic accuracy, cut costs, and improve patient safety by delivering fast results aiding in early detection, resulting in more rapid, targeted treatment.

Michael Abramoff, MD, PhD, Founder & Executive Chairman, Digital Diagnostics (Moderator)
Michael D. Abramoff, MD, PhD, is an internationally renowned physician-scientist at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and the Iowa City VA Health Care System. He is an IEEE Fellow, and an ARVO Fellow. He is a fellowship-trained retina specialist, and the Robert C. Watzke, Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, with joint appointments in both Electrical and Computer Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. He is also a machine learning and image analysis expert, with a Master’s in Computer Science focused on Artificial Intelligence, and a PhD in image analysis – both Jan Koenderink and Max Viergever were advisors. Dr. Abramoff did a postdoc in Tokyo Japan between 1989-1990 at the RIKEN neural networks research lab. He was one of the original developers of ImageJ, a widely used open-source image analysis app. Dr. Abramoff is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Digiatal Diagnostics (fka. IDx Technologies), the autonomous AI company that is the first company in any field of medicine to get FDA approval for autonomous AI, which is now part of ADA’s Standard of Diabetes Care. For the past 20 years, Dr. Abramoff’s research has focused autonomous Artificial Intelligence (AI) – can be used to improve the lives of patients, focusing on autonomous AI-based diagnostic and quantification algorithms for retinal disease, and the interaction between neuropathy and vasculopathy in diabetes complications. Dr. Abramoff ‘s research has been continuously funded since 2004 by the National Eye Institute, the Veterans Administration, the Beckman Foundation and other federal, state and philanthropic funding agencies in the U.S. and Europe. He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications that have been cited over 33,000 times (h-index 62). He is inventor on 16 issued patents and many patent applications. Dr. Abramoff has mentored dozens of ophthalmology residents, retina fellows, computer engineering graduate student. His passion is not only to improve health care for patients in the retina clinic, but to find ways to improve healthcare for all patients.

Chris Fernandez, Co-Founder & CEO, EnsoData
Chris Fernandez is the co-founder and CEO of EnsoData, the company simplifying the process for analyzing the human body to accurately diagnose health conditions. He brings his expertise to design and clinically validate EnsoData’s pioneer technology, Waveform AI. With more than seven years of machine learning and AI research experience, Chris now works at the confluence of applied artificial intelligence and machine learning, distributed and parallelized cloud computing and multi-Terabyte/Petabyte scale data. Chris is a passionate leader focused on increasing patient access, improving patient outcomes, enhancing the patient-provider care experience, and advancing the state of knowledge and scientific methods for studying health and disease. Chris has a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has also acted as a leading contributor to the open-source machine learning platform, NEXT ML. Jim Havelka, Founder & CEO, Inform AI
Jim Havelka is founder and CEO of InformAI. He founded the company in 2017 with the belief that Al can provide a paradigm shift in using predictive analytics to assist clinicians in diagnosing medical conditions and improving patient treatment plans. Mr. Havelka has over 25 years of building, funding and leading advanced technology organizations. Prior to starting InformAI, Mr. Havelka was a senior executive/partner at several leading global business and IT consulting organizations including KPMG, BearingPoint and Infosys. Mr. Havelka received his MBA from Rice University and has BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University, as well as executive education programs from Harvard Business School and Stanford Business School.

Hui Li, PhD, Co-Founder & CEO, Singularity AI
Dr. Hui Li founded Singularity AI, Inc. in 2018 with the vision to empower physicians with rapidly-evolving technologies through seamless adoption. The company builds a Hardware-Enabled SaaS model to integrate AI, edge computing and other forward-looking technologies into a turnkey solution to streamline workflow of the practice. Hui has over ten years of experience in commercialization of innovative biomedical technologies. Before founding Singularity AI, Hui served as the SVP of ACCB Biotech, where she led the commercialization of multiple state-of-the-art products in cancer diagnostics to generate a cumulative revenue of more than ten million dollars. Prior to that Hui worked as Associate Specialist on cancer drug and diagnostics development at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Hui Li has authored or co-authored over 30 papers and patents. She received her BS in Biological Sciences with highest distinction from Tsinghua University and the Ph.D. in Molecular Cellular & Developmental Biology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Geetha Manjunath, PhD, Founder & CEO, Niramai Health Analytix
Dr. Geetha Manjunath is the Founder, CEO and CTO of NIRAMAI. She has over 25 years of experience in IT research and has led many innovative projects in Healthcare and Transportation, especially catering to Emerging Market needs. Until end of 2016, she was a Lab Director heading Data Analytics Research in Xerox India. Prior to that, she was a Principal Research Scientist at Hewlett Packard Laboratories for 17 years, and a member of the C-DAC team which built the first commercial supercomputer from India. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Science and management education from Kellogg’s School of Management Chicago. Geetha has won many international and national recognition for her innovations and entrapreneural work. She was awarded the Computer Society of India Gold Medal in 1991 and TR Shamanna State Award from Karnataka in 1989. She was named as one of the top 50 NASCCOM IT Innovators in 2009. Among several accolades from Hewlett Packard, her outstanding innovation called SiteOnMobile was tagged as a “HP Legend”. She was also the winner of 2010 MIT Tech Review Grand Challenges for Technologists in Healthcare category. She has co-authored a book on Cloud Technologies called “Moving to the Cloud” which was published by Elsevier Syngress Publications. She is a Senior member of IEEE and past Chair of IEEE Computer Society, Bangalore Chapter. She is the inventor of 15 US patents with more pending grant. She was awarded BIRAC WinER Award 2018 for her Entrepreneurial Research.
